In the late 1980's a Columbia, South Carolina real estate developer decided to step off the beaten path and build an upscale open-air market. The first Barnyard Flea Market was built in Lexington, South Carolina in 1988. Although Barnyard Lexington started as a small market, over the years the market grew and became very successful.
Realizing that he had found a special niche, the owner decided to expand the business and build a second Barnyard Market. He turned his focus to the Charlotte, North Carolina area and in 1995 the Barnyard Flea Market of Pineville was opened. Barnyard Pineville got off to a bumpy start. The customers were not coming out. It was decided that the market just wasn't big enough. More spaces were added and today it's built to its maximum limits and is at full capacity.
With Augusta, Georgia being just a short drive from the Barnyard headquarters in Lexington it made sense to expand south. The Barnyard Flea Market of Augusta was opened in 2002. Barnyard Augusta received a warm welcome and is the largest Barnyard Flea Market with over 600 spaces.
Looking to expand once again, the owners headed to the upstate of South Carolina. The Greenville/Greer area is one of the Southeast's fastest growing areas and historically a Flea Market haven. The Barnyard felt it had something special and unique to offer the upstate area and in 2006 the Barnyard Flea Market of Greer was opened. Centrally located and a state of the art facility, Barnyard Greer is already a popular place.
The success of this family run business is attributed to the hard work and dedication of all its employees.
